An Scoilbhlian 2017-2018

The new school year got off to a very active start as we took full advantage of the good weather to launch a range of fitness activities.  As part of National Fitness week the children ran every day. The cumulative distance ran by all classes was 977 km which is the distance from Dublin to Brussels.  Fitness week culminated in a hotly contested game of dodge ball between the teachers and the pupils on Friday 29th September. Competition was intense and the teachers were lucky that their efforts resulted in them emerging victorious Teachers and Cross country running Lunch time cross country running has become very popular and children from Rang 1-Rang 6 can be seen jogging and running the circuit around the pitch.  A team of pupils represented the school at  West Muskery cross country running competition in Macroom 

Karen Fenton Ovarian Cancer Fund

Pupils and staff were delighted to support our colleague and teacher Davina Fenton in her fundraising for Ovarian cancer research  and   supporting cancer services in the CUH.  Davina's  sister Karen Fenton,   tragically lost her life to ovarian cancer this year. Leaba i measc na Naomh aici. In her memory, Davina and her family recently set up the Karen Fenton Ovarian Cancer Fund, with the aim of raising funds to assist with research. Karen was training for the Cobh Jailbreak Triathlon before her diagnosis and in her memory, Davina and her brothers, Martin and Mícheál, will participate on her behalf. in Cóbh on Saturday, July 1 st,  from 10.30 onwards. Official Opening  Ár n-Oscailt Oifigiúil Our extended and refurbished buildings are finally completed and   were officially opened by Bishop John Buckley in May, in the  presence of a large gathering. The plaque located in the foyer of  the new extension highlights the support of the community in the  success of the project.

End of Year  Once again we have arrived at the end of another successful and busy school year which was packed with an ever growing number of activities and achievements. Latest News  Oct-Nov 2016 The last two months have been busy and exciting with a range of school activities including Halloween, Sciath na Scol finals, Maths week, Science Week, and the re launch of our car pooling initiative as part of our Green schools project.  We had a visit  from our past pupil Alan Bennett who arrived with the FAI cup, and our senior pupils visited  Marymount to perform a carol service.   Sports feature prominently in our school and this year we were delighted to participate in a scheme which introduces pupils to Cricket.  Please visit Kids Zone to read our individual Class Blogs and  to keep in touch with all that has been happening here in Scoil Bhailenora. Well done to our Cailinií who won their roinn in the  Sciath na Scol finals and comhghairdeas also to the boys who reached the  final in a very competitive division.
